A friendly establishment offering a traditional and comfortable bar serving an extensive range of drinks including well-kept local cask ales and west country ciders; a restaurant making delicious meals using fantastic local produce; and last, but not least, cosy bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms.

Popular with both locals and visitors, there is always someone interesting to talk to. We welcome families and well-behaved dogs.

In the winter, we have an open log fire and, for warmer times, there is a large south-facing patio and grassed garden with one of the oldest wisterias in Devon. We have plenty of free parking for guests, and free WiFi.

Your new host Sheila looks forward to welcoming both new customers and regulars, locals and visitors. With help from friends, family, our chef Nick and a small dedicated team of local staff, we hope to provide a relaxed and informal atmosphere with year-round service.

  • Great village pub.

I went here recently with a friend for a mid week lunch. The staff were so helpful and thoughtful – recommending drinks. We opted for the fish and chips as a lunchtime treat on a cold day. They were the best I have had in a long time – fresh and delicious.

  • A comfortable stay with a superb breakfast. We stayed for two nights in room 1 which was just at the top of the stairs overlooking the garden, very comfortable and clean. The bathroom was large and airy with a good shower over the bath. The cooked breakfast was excellent – very well cooked with good quality ingredients and not too much of anything – perfect!

  • Excellent Country pub in centre of charming village. This friendly country pub has well appointed rooms, excellent food and great range of beers and ciders. A warm welcome awaits guests. Thorverton itself is an ideal place from which to explore the beautiful Exe valley and the Devon hills. Exeter itself is only a short bus ride away. Highly recommend this place.
